Laure + Max
Laure + Max is the French clothing label we brought in for colour, and for the fact that none of it shouts. It is a Paris brand led by Laure Guetta, built on the twenty-five years her father spent designing before her. Expect print, warm colour and cuts with room in them.
We brought it in because colour is the hardest thing to buy well. A bright piece often belongs to one season and then dates. Laure + Max is built the other way round: the brand's own phrase for what it makes is free and radiant, and the clothes carry colour without tying themselves to a trend.
The range here runs across jackets, knitwear, tops, blouses and trousers. Leopard print appears more than once and in different weights, on fine ribbed jersey and on a hooded jacket lined in cream borg. Alongside it sit plainer things: a black teddy jacket with a funnel collar, striped wide leg trousers, an off white blouse worked with tonal embroidery, and a black cardigan with hearts and stars knitted in.
Laure and Max started the label together after meeting on the Mediterranean coast, and Laure Guetta is its artistic director. It picks up where her father left off after more than twenty-five years of designing, which is why the cutting feels settled rather than experimental. Her own description of the aim is clothes that fit well, leave room, and give confidence without being over the top.
If you like colour but not fuss, start here. Come and try it at 14 High Street, Salisbury, or shop the range online with UK delivery.
